Ifty Islam is the founder and Managing Partner of AT Capital. The commitment to develop the Asian Tiger platform reflects his optimism on Bangladesh's potential as an investment destination having been a regular participant in capital markets events there over a number of years. His objective is to leverage his long-term relationships with many of the world's largest investors developed over an 18 year Wall Street career to attract substantial overseas funds to the country. Prior to moving to Dhaka, Ifty was a Managing Director at Citigroup, London from 2004-2007 where he was Head of Macro Strategy/Hedge Fund Research. From 1997-2004 Ifty spent 8 years at Deutsche Bank Securities in London and New York, latterly as Managing Director and Chief US Strategist. Ifty has also worked as a European Strategist at Merrill Lynch and began his career in 1989 in the corporate finance group at BZW Securities focusing on privatizations in Eastern Europe. He graduated from the Queen's College, Oxford with a BA/MA (First Class) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
Syeed Khan is one of the founding Partners of AT Capital and has relocated to Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prior to this he worked in Corporate Finance in London for Landsbanki Securities, a Pan European Investment Bank, where he focused on M&A, private equity buyouts and other corporate advisory mandates. Prior to this he worked for Ernst & Young LLP in London where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CA) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. His clients have spanned across various sectors including Private Equity, Asset Management, Banking, Leisure, Retail, Manufacturing, Real Estate, Construction, Technology and Energy. He is a Member of the Securities Institute in the UK (MSI). Syeed read Law (LLB) at Aberdeen University and completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) from Aberdeen Business School.
MD Minhaz Zia is a Partner at AT Capital. He is a well known professional in the field of corporate finance and principal investments in Bangladesh, having more than two and half decades of wide ranging experience gained at different leading financial institutions. Prior to joining AT Capital, he worked for five years as the Managing Director and CEO of Sabinco, a leading DFI with particular focus on project finance and private equity across various sectors including Energy and Infrastructure, Telecoms and Agro-based industries. Before that he was the General Manager of IDLC Finance, where he headed the Corporate Finance, Structured Finance and Capital Market Divisions. He served the company for nearly two decades starting as one of its founding members, developing it from its original Lease Finance business, to make it the country’s leading non-banking financial institution providing a multi product offering. He is a CFA charter holder, US, and has an MBA degree from IBA of Dhaka University.
Mir Mahfuz ur Rahman is a Partner at AT Capital. He
is an experienced corporate finance advisor in Bangladesh having experience in
advising international companies, including Lafarge Cement, Brightstar USA, Marico
Industries, Dabur Group, and Emami Limited, in M&A and IPO strategy and
execution in Bangladesh. Mahfuz was previously the Head of Merchant
Banking for Equity Partners, a Bangladesh based merchant bank, where he
executed 10 IPOs over 5 years in this country. Prior to that he was an Analyst
in Corporate Finance at Lehman Brothers in New York and an Associate with
Peregrine Capital in Dhaka. Mahfuz is also a founder of a leading
software integration company and of a data communication service provider in
the country. He has a B. A. degree (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) in
economics and international relations from Dickinson College, Carlisle,
Pennsylvania, USA, and a M. A. (Distinction) in International Relations and
Economics from SAIS, Johns Hopkins University.
John Hides Joined AT-Capital as a Senior Advisor. John has 30 years experience in the Power Generation Industry. He started his career at a UK utility operational power station and project development engineer level, progressing through overseas power station management at CEO level, project development at Managing Director and regional Power Business Development Director levels. Active in Bangladesh since 1994 initially as Country Manager he has developed a range of power projects including competitively tendered bids and unsolicited proposals in the 100-450 MW range and additionally smaller rapid, rental and operating lease schemes. Appointed Managing Director of Cinergy Corp’s Bangladesh subsidiary formed to implement a competitively awarded 170 MW Combined Cycle project and Regional Business Development Director for their UK subsidiary’s South and South East Asia region. He was company representative of IFCC, AMCHAM chamber of commerce and American-Bangladesh Business Council in Bangladesh and Operating Committee company representative on Bangladesh on shore integrated gas field / power project joint venture development. He has been resident country manager and senior consultant advisor of a UK government aid funded rehabilitation and management project of Sudan’s largest thermal power station. As Project Development Manager for US utility Cinergy Corp’s UK based subsidiary he has identified and developed a diverse range of project –financed power projects globally. These have included thermal, hydro and geothermal opportunities typically in the 100-450 MW range including integrated schemes in Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Pakistan, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Puerto Rico and Bangladesh. He was Chief Executive Officer of Tsavo Power Company Kenya bringing their US$86 million 75 MW diesel unit based power station into commercial operation. He has been a company representative in project negotiations and agreement development with appropriate parties including senior Utility and Government officials, advisors, shareholders, JV partners, EPC and Operation and Maintenance contractors, legal council, lenders, environmental and owner engineers, insurers and multinational institutions including the World and Asian Development Banks. Operation and Maintenance Agreement negotiator for utility shareholder of 1100 MW UK station. He has presented Independent Power [IPP] related seminars and workshops for UK Department of Trade South Asia Advisory Group within UK and overseas. Company representative on UK Government overseas trade missions. Engaged as consultant advisor on generation to Price Waterhouse Privatisation Services. Has acted as UK Power sector representative in Sudan’s United Nations flood relief disaster committee. Occasional lecturer at UMIST and University of Wolverhampton. Previously Senior Authorised person Mechanical and Electrical. Honorary secretary UK Midland Branch CHP [Cogeneration] Association. Company nominated consultant to Saudi Electricity Authority and Kyrgyzstan on Power plant management Training. John has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at Aston University, UK and an MBA at University of Wolverhampton,UK.
